Buying Industrial Equipment For Less

5 Tips To Keep Your Steel Casters Rolling Smoothly

To make it easy to transport heavy equipment and items throughout your industrial building, you might rely on steel casters. Steel casters can be a lifesaver in any industrial setting, but they can also be a major disappointment if they stop rolling correctly. If you purchase the right casters in the beginning and ensure that they are installed correctly, you can typically enjoy them for quite some time. However, there are a few care tips that you should follow if you want to keep your steel casters rolling smoothly in the long term.

1. Use Equipment Carefully

First of all, when you are loading items onto any piece of equipment that has steel casters, you should be careful about doing so. Check the weight limit for the casters that you are using, and make sure that you don't exceed it. Also, be careful about throwing heavy items on top of equipment that has casters underneath. Instead, always load carefully and responsibly.

2. Check Nuts and Bolts Regularly

If your casters are not properly attached to your equipment, then they could be uneven, and they might not roll as they are supposed to. Make it a point to check the nuts and bolts every week to ensure that they are all properly screwed into place, and tighten them up as needed.

3. Use Lubricant Regularly

The moving parts of your casters will not move as they are supposed to if they are not properly lubricated. Carefully lubricate all of the moving parts on a regular basis to keep the casters moving smoothly.

4. Install Thread Guards

Have you been having trouble with foreign materials getting stuck in your casters? If so, you should consider installing thread guards on each caster. Thread guards will help cover up the open areas of your casters and will prevent foreign objects from getting tangled up with the wheels.

5. Clean Casters Regularly

Make it a habit to clean all sides of each caster on a regular basis. Otherwise, debris that is stuck onto the wheels could cause uneven wear and tear. This will also help you get rid of any foreign objects that might have gotten tangled up in the casters.

As you can see, there are steps that you can take to keep your casters rolling smoothly. Following these tips will help prevent uneven wear and other problems that you might experience with your steel casters.
